Open or Closed Headphones? What to Buy?

If you are looking for a brand new pair of headphones, you will have to think about the options that you have at your disposal. There are so many terrific headphones on the market these days, and not all of them are super expensive. You can easily get a terrific pair of headphones and not even spend a penny more than $50. But you will have to think about the type of headphones you want to buy, which directly relates to how you envision yourself using those headphones. We can discuss the two main options you will have: open and closed headphones.

Unless you want to get those tiny earbuds that we only recommend for using on the go, the two options you have are the over or on-ear headphones that are either open or closed. When we talk about open headphones, we are referring to headphones where you can hear the audio from the headphones even if the person is wearing them on his or her head. But you are getting such great sound out of these headphones, because they have what is called an open soundstage. The only downside is that you cannot really use these if you have roommates or you are in a public place, such as a library.

If you are planning on using your headphones at home while you are alone, open headphones are perfect. Your music and games and movies will sound great, and they are usually so comfortable. But if you are going to be using your headphones both at home and while you are at the library or at school, make sure you get closed headphones. There are plenty of fantastic sounding closed headphones. But the key element is that you will not be leaking any sound while you are wearing them, even if you have the music on a really loud volume.
